Traditional couture #6: Coral bead necklaces

Hardly do you see a Nigerian bride on her wedding day without her bead necklaces to complete her look. Thses bead necklaces are most times coral beads and they have certainly evolved over the years.

Coral beads which originated from the binis are red and long and are mostly worn on to special occasions.  But commonly now, brides wear them on their wedding day. Suffice it to say that coral beads have been modified in several ways to suit the bride’s taste.

Coral beads can be used to adorn the hair and worn as necklaces as we’ve earlier established. They are also worn as bracelets and anklets
