Having and maintaining a radiant skin is very important because it adds to our beauty there is no denying that. Skin care is a very important aspect of a woman’s life especially for those of us who pay so much attention to how we look.

Sometimes, we love to improve the tone of our skin and we are not just sure which cream will do the right job. We are sick of the different suggestions from well meaning fashion conscious friends because we know that what works for Ada might not work for Thelma. And we don’t want to be unfortunate and end up in the hands of some people who want to make quick money and advertise themselves as cosmetologists so as not to end up damaging our skin all together and we don’t have the extra cash to consult the real guys in the business because we have bills to pay.

There is an easy way out. Fruits and vegetables. Yes! They work miracles  on the tone of your skin. A recent report in the American Journal of  Public Health shows that eating fruits and vegetables can improve your skin tone in a matter of weeks. That’s awesome. Fruits and vegetables that can help enhance your skin tone are; citrus fruits, tomatoes, strawberries, apple etc

Let’s take a kook at ten of them;

Apple

An apple a day can certainly keep ageing skin at bay! This fruit has vitamin C in abundance which keeps your skin firm and gives it an inner radiance. Apple also prevents free-radical damage which causes premature skin ageing.

To ensure glowing skin, you can eat one apple every day. You can also apply the juice of an apple on your face and wash it off with water after 10 minutes. Apart from this, apple imparts other health benefits as well

Mangos

“Mangos boost collagen production for smoother, youthful-looking skin,” explains Dr. Marina Peredo, associate clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. “Because they contain carotenoids, they can also improve skin tone and color, giving a rosy glow to dull skin.”

Carrot

Carrot is high in beta carotene which is converted by the body to vitamin A. This makes it a must-eat vegetable in your daily diet. Not only will it give your skin a glow, it will also fight wrinkles and improve your skin, making it healthy.

You can add carrots to your salad or cook it to make a dish. Drinking carrot juice with its fibre intact is also a great way to boost your beauty.

Salmon

Some medical experts love salmon for its ability to enhance smooth skin. “Omega 3 fatty acids are important because your body does not produce it,” says Dr. Stafford R. Broumand, New York-based plastic surgeon and associate clinical professor of plastic surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical Center.

“Fish is a great source of omega 3 fatty acid because it aids in the functioning of different types of cells in the body, including the skin. Healthy fats help to support the production and building of elastin and collagen, which in turn will help maintain supple, youthful-looking skin.”

Lemon

 Your skin tends to look dull when it has scars, acne and blackheads. But lemons can keep these at bay. This fruit has high content of vitamin C which is needed for the synthesis of collagen.

Squeeze a lemon in a glass of warm water and have it first thing in the morning. You can add a spoonful of honey also in the mixture. Or, simple add a dash of lemon juice on your salad.

Avocado

“One of my best tips is to start by eating a bit of avocado every day as part of your salad, or even throwing half of an avocado into your morning smoothie,” says New York City-based celebrity facialist Joanna Vargas. “Avocados supply the skin with healthy fats and phytonutrients to hydrate from the inside out and bring back your glow.” 

Strawberry

The presence of malic acid in strawberry makes it a natural whitening agent. It also has loads of antioxidants which lend your skin a healthy radiance

Eat a handful of strawberries or simple mash it to make a paste and add yoghurt and honey. Apply it on your face and in 15 minutes get glowing skin. Strawberry can also be added to your smoothie.

Red Bell Peppers

“Red bell peppers are very high in vitamin C,” explains health coach Lori Shemek. “Vitamin C aids the body in the production of collagen, a very important skin supporter that prevents sagging skin. Vitamin C also helps prevent inflammation that can accelerate aging.”

Sweet potato

Anti-inflammatory in nature, sweet potato has high vitamin A content which helps fight acne-causing bacteria. The presence of vitamin C further improves skin tone and heals pimple scar.

Eat it as an evening snack. Boil sweet potato and add salt, pepper and lemon juice to it. Eat it with the skin intact for maximum benefits. If it is treated with wax or is too shiny in appearance then it is a good idea to peel off the skin. 

Tomato

 Your skin needs a boost from within to look fresh and glowing. Tomato is rich in an antioxidant called lycopene which has anti-ageing properties and also acts a sunscreen from within. Since tomato is acidic in nature, its pulp helps tighten pores and prevent pimples.

 Tomatoes are usually a staple of Indian diet and added to several dishes in a puree form. But you can eat them raw as well or apply its pulp and juice on your skin.

Add fruits and vegetables to your daily diet, enjoy the taste, don’t bother about adding weight and watch your skin tone improve tremendously. However, if you have major skin issues like infections, contact a dermatologist and have your skin examined and treated.
